Description
n-Butyl alcohol is a colorless flammable liquid with a strong alcoholic odor. n-Butyl alcohol is a highly refractive liquid and burns with a strongly luminous flame. It is incompatible with strong acids, strong oxidizing agents, aluminium, acid chlorides, acid anhydrides, copper, and copper alloys. n-Butyl alcohol has extensive use in a large number of industries. For instance, it is used as a solvent in industries associated with the manufacturing of paints, varnishes, synthetic resins, gums.

Uses
As a chromatographic analysis reagent, it is also used in organic synthesis, etc.; butanol is a food flavor permitted in my country’s “Sanitary Standards for the Use of Food Additives”, and is mainly used to prepare banana, cream, whiskey and cheese flavors. The amount used in candy is 34mg/kg; baked food is 32mg/kg; soft drinks are 12mg/kg; cold drinks are 7.0mg/kg; cream is 4.0mg/kg; alcohol is 1.0mg/kg. Butanol is an intermediate of the herbicides 2,4-D butyl ester, butachlor, diflufen-op-p-ethyl (Penoxazone) and fine diflufen-op-ethyl. GB2760—96 stipulates that it is allowed to use edible spices. Mainly used to prepare flavors such as banana, cream, whiskey and cheese. Also used as extraction solvent and pigment diluent. It is mainly used in the manufacture of n-butyl ester plasticizers of phthalic acid, aliphatic dibasic acid and phosphoric acid. They are widely used in various plastics and rubber products. It is also a raw material for the production of butyraldehyde, butyric acid, butylamine and butyl lactate in organic synthesis. It is also an extractant for oils, drugs (such as antibiotics, hormones and vitamins) and spices, and an additive for alkyd resin coatings. It can also be used as a solvent and dewaxing agent for organic dyes and printing inks. Used in the production of butyl acetate, dibutyl phthalate and phosphoric acid plasticizers, and also used in the production of melamine resin, acrylic, epoxy varnish, etc.
